Thanks, Aiko. Nice to hear from a fellow Waterhouse fan :)

Oxford was good day out made all the better by me winning £50 the day before (so there was the costs for day covered!).

Stop by again,

Hi Jim,

The finished piece will be in acrylic on an unfinished pine wood box. I have an addiction to painting boxes...it's just so fun to try to think in 3-dimensions. I plan to have the "Seven kings daughters" around the sides of the box, and the entire ballad written on the inside lid. Honestly, if it turns out as well as I hope, I'll have a hard time selling it ;)

Grace, you should be happy with your sketch because this is really, really good! I'm impressed. There's a nice balance to the picture and you've made the figures look natural, something I know from experience is (at least for me) hard to achieve.

What are you going to paint it in/on? I know with the best will in the world these things can still take time, but let me know when it's done. I'd love to see it :)

Heya Jim...I did a sketch for Lady Isabel. Sadly, my art style isn't really entirely like the old masters :) but I'm kinda happy with it anyway!

Now, to paint it.

Thanks for the comments Meridith and Lee Ann.

I've been thinking of 'Windflowers' lately when I look at 'Veronica'. The dresses look similar so I guess I'm thinking of lavender or lilac type colours. The rose in her hair is presumably white or pink so it'll be 50/50 as to what it really is. Each colour Rose has it's own symbolic meaning and, as you probably know, Waterhouse was big on symbolism. I'd love to know if there was a story behind the painting.

Thanks again!

Grace, your 'silly' dream made me smile. If I bumped into Waterhouse he'd probably use me as a brush rather than a model! Have you any favourite dresses that Waterhouse painted? I guess the 1910 Ophelia with the blue dress would be high on your list!? Maybe, if you haven't already, you could do a post on favourite Waterhouse or Pre-Raphaelite dresses and see what other people think? I'd have to think about that one, but the Ophelia mentioned above certainly springs to mind.

Here's the link for the pronunciation of 'Naiad':

Just click on the speaker symbol and it should play. I usually use this site for a lot of mythological names. I hate not knowing how to pronounce them! 'Danae' and 'Danaides' are other names I've always pronounced wrongly. That said, whose to say they have it right themselves?
